Big Changes Are Taking Flight at Kodiak Airport!

Kodiak’s airport is getting a makeover, and we’re here to help you navigate the changes!

Flying Alaska Airlines to or from Kodiak? As of October 17, 2026, passengers are using the new temporary terminal while preparations begin for demolition of the old terminal.

With construction of Kodiak’s brand-new airport underway, we want to make sure visitors and locals alike know what to expect when flying in and out of Kodiak.

The good news? While the space may look a little different, the process is pretty much the same!

Flying Out of Kodiak? Here’s Where to Go!

If you’re flying out of Kodiak, you’ll now head to the far-left side of the building, just to the left of Alaska Air Cargo. This is where you’ll find the temporary departures area.

It might feel a little different at first, but once you’re inside, the process will be familiar!

Alaska Airlines Check-In: Same Process, New Space!

Good news! You can still check in just like you always have.

  • Self-service kiosks are still available! Scan your boarding pass from your phone and print your bag tags.
  • Checking bags? The process remains the same.
  • Going through TSA? Same security process, just in a different space.

The biggest difference? There’s a little less room before TSA, but a whole lot more room after security!

And here’s something we’re especially excited about: Everyone will actually have a seat while waiting for their flight! If you’ve flown out of Kodiak before, you know what a welcome change that is!

Don’t Be Late! Important Airport Reminders

With the changes to the terminal, it’s especially important to give yourself plenty of time before your flight.

Keep these two important deadlines in mind:

  • 50 minutes before departure: The Alaska Airlines check-in counter closes.
  • 20 minutes before departure: TSA closes.

Don’t cut it close! We recommend arriving early, getting checked in, and giving yourself plenty of time to make it through security.

Arriving in Kodiak? Here’s What to Know!

If you’re flying into Kodiak or picking someone up from the airport, there are a few changes you’ll want to know about!

Arriving passengers will now exit through the doors to the right of Alaska Air Cargo. This is where you’ll want to meet your friends, family, or arriving guests.

This area is also where you’ll find rental car services and Discover Kodiak’s visitor information, including our guides and brochures to help you make the most of your time on our beautiful island!

One big change is baggage claim. The temporary terminal no longer has a baggage carousel. Instead, luggage will be brought inside and placed in a designated roped-off area for passengers to collect.

This process can take a little longer than before, so we encourage everyone to pack a little extra patience while waiting for their bags.

Whether you’re arriving for your first Kodiak adventure or welcoming friends and family home, a little extra time and knowing where to go will help make the experience easier!

A New Airport Is on the Horizon!

The temporary terminal is just one step toward something much bigger for our island community!

Demolition of the old airport terminal is expected to begin in November 2026, making way for a beautiful new facility that’s currently projected to be completed in June 2028.

We’re excited to watch this transformation take shape and look forward to welcoming visitors through a brand-new airport in the future.

In the meantime, a little patience and planning will go a long way as our community navigates these changes.

Whether you’re heading off island for a getaway, traveling for work, or arriving for an unforgettable Kodiak adventure, we want your airport experience to be as smooth as possible.

Safe travels, and we’ll see you in Kodiak!
