Hit the Trails at Adjust Your Altitude 2026
It’s that time again! Time to…Adjust Your Altitude. This community-focused hiking challenge runs June 15 – September 1 and is all about getting outside to explore in Kodiak. Throughout this weeks-long event, participants will explore Kodiak’s rugged terrain, gain an appreciation for its beautiful landscapes, become more familiar with local trails, and build physical and mental toughness – adjusting their altitude.
When: June 15, 2026, at 8 AM to September 1, 2026, at 4 PM
Where: All around Kodiak, Alaska
The 2026 Adjust Your Altitude Hiking Challenge is for locals and visitors, and it’s a great way to enjoy your time on the island. It’s also focused on showcasing the many resources available through Discover Kodiak and the awesome local trail organizations.
The season kickoff was June 13 at the Kodiak Marketplace, where community members and visitors learned about the hiking challenges throughout the summer, registered for the 2026 event, met local trail advocates, and found out about more resources for hiking safety and outdoor exploration.
How to Register
If you haven’t already signed up, just stop by the Discover Kodiak office to register. Each challenge is just $5 to participate, and you will need to fill out the official waiver before participating.

- An official challenge sticker
- A challenge passport
- Important trail information and helpful resources
A Kodiak Showcase
Adjust Your Altitude is more than just a hiking challenge. It’s about building connections between people and place. Whether you’ve been here forever or are coming to Kodiak for the first time, Adjust Your Altitude 2026 is a way to discover new trails, soak in the natural beauty of Alaska, check out maps, dive into a deeper knowledge of the area, and just spend more quality time outside.
The Challenges
Adjust Your Altitude has 3 challenges to choose from:
- Foothills Challenge
- Summit Challenge
- Foothills + Summit Challenge
The Foothills Challenge has a BONUS HIKE to Old Woman, and the Summit Challenge has a BONUS HIKE to Marin Ridge.
Foothills Challenge
This is great for those wanting to check out some of the most popular Kodiak hikes – which are also some of the most accessible spots. Foothills Challenge hikes include:
- Spruce Cape
- Termination Point (Coastal Trail to the Ropes)
- Lake Gertrude
- Boy Scout Lake
- Near Island North End
- Near Island South End
- Bonus – Old Woman
Bring your official challenge sticker along on your hike, and snap a photo with the sticker visible at each challenge location. Once you’ve completed all the hikes within the challenge, submit your photos to be entered into the grand prize drawing – featuring more than $1,000 in prizes!
Summit Challenge
The Summit Challenge takes hikers across 7 iconic mountain peaks in Kodiak. It will take you to the heights of:
- Heitman Mountain
- Kashevaroff Mountain
- Barometer Mountain
- Pyramid Mountain
- Sharatin Mountain
- Monashka Mountain
- North Sister Mountain
- Bonus – Marin Ridge
Again, just snap a photo with your official challenge sticker at each mountain summit! As fog often rolls in at these peaks, just take your best photo possible (with the sticker visible). We’re working on the honor system here!
Those who complete the Summit Challenge (all 7 summits), turn in their photos, and submit them will be placed in a finisher raffle with more than $2,000 in prizes!
Want extra entries?
Summit all 7 mountains in the Summit Challenge within 7 days during the challenge time or complete all 7 summits within a continuous 24-hour period. This year brings a new Bonus Finisher Sticker, a commemorative 2026 sticker for everyone who completes the bonus hikes. Local artist Ron Jackson of Slim Jones Ink designed the artwork for the sticker. The custom sticker featuring local art celebrates hikers who go above and beyond, tackling both of the bonus hikes!
A Final Celebration
When the challenge is over, those who finished can gather at the Rendezvous for the annual raffle drawing. If you’ve completed your hikes and submitted your sticker photos, you’ll be eligible for prize drawings.
Not up for all the hikes or the bonuses? That’s okay! Adjust Your Altitude is all about exploring, pushing yourself, and enjoying the beauty of Kodiak. Do them all, do a few…just enjoy discovering Kodiak!
