Retreat in Luxury at Katmai Wilderness Lodge

Unbelievable natural beauty. Once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters. Luxury at its best.

This is
Katmai Wilderness Lodge.

Hosted by Ian and Nancy Beaumont, two remote Alaska guides with decades of experience and the highest safety certifications, the Katmai Wilderness Lodge offers the ultimate in a remote Alaskan wilderness experience. Here you’ll escape the crowds for wildlife, wilderness, a luxury lodge, and gourmet dining with your private chef.

Set on Kukak Bay, on the coast of the Katmai National Park & Preserve, this Alaskan lodge boasts unmatched bear viewing. Forget the busy bear viewing platforms and Brooks River crowds. Katmai Wilderness Lodge is your private bear retreat. Experienced guides will take you (safely) to view bears at ground level, completely immersing you in the wilds of Alaska. There is truly no better or more authentic way to take it all in.

Wildlife to Watch for
On your secluded stretch of coast, watch for coastal brown bears feeding on local streams bursting with salmon, bald eagles flying overhead, playful otters and puffins, seals, sea lions, whales in the bay, foxes, moose, wolves, porcupines, and even the rare wolverine and lynx.

Guides for You
What makes Katmai Wilderness Lodge so special? The guides live at the lodge full time, meaning these experts know the exact land you’ll be living on during your stay, inside and out. They understand the weather, the flora and fauna, the waters, and the many changes that happen throughout the year.

On your daily walks from your exclusive luxury lodge (also the perfect place for bear viewing), they’ll point out fireweed, bluebells, cow parsnip, wild iris, and the wide range of flora in the area. You’ll look out for some of the more than 2,000 coastal brown bears in the national park and preserve, taking boat trips each day to nearby brown bear habitats. Your exclusive access means no lines, no crowds of people, and no standing on concrete platforms.

You’re in the wild, away from it all.

Along the way, talented guides – Ian and Nancy Beaumont and their team – will offer their expertise of the area. Ian has spent more than 20 years as a remote guide, and he loves sharing wild spaces with guests. He’s spent more than 2,500 days at sea, is a Wilderness First Responder, and holds the utmost respect for nature – and keeping you safe. Nancy Beaumont is a USGC-licensed captain, a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT), and has more than a decade of experience with remote trips, sailing charters, and expedition logistics.

Intimate + Exclusive
The lodge welcomes no more than 12 guests at a time, keeping the staff-to-guest ratio (averaging 1 guide to 6 guests) small for an intimate experience. Among the vast 4.6 million acres of protected wilderness in Katmai, the lodge – only accessible by floatplane – is truly an exclusive getaway.

The Rooms
Katmai Wilderness Lodge has 10 chic guest rooms, each with a sitting area, a full bathroom with a modern shower (no baths), and a private balcony with a waterfront view. At the end of the day, you don’t have to fly back out – you’re already home at the lodge. Retreat to your lovely room for a great view, some deserved rest, and a relaxing shower.

The Great Room is a wonderful shared space with a large seating area, an inviting fireplace, a full bar, and an attached large deck with amazing views. It’s the place you’ll gather as a group before heading out in the morning, and the place you’ll be glad to see again after a long day.

The Food
Executive Chef Barry Clark nourishes groups with gourmet breakfasts and dinners served in the lodge’s dining area. He utilizes local ingredients from Kodiak farmers and the lodge’s own garden and wild-caught seafood to prepare delicious meals showcasing regional flavors. And his food isn’t just delicious. Chef Barry Clark creates healthy meals that truly nourish guests for busy days. Meals are paired with complimentary beer, wine, and dessert for a perfect finish. Lunch is often served outside, where guests can soak up the incredible scenery.
